For centuries, men from Ness on the Isle of Lewis have sailed to the tiny island of Sùlaisgeir, 40 miles north of Lewis, each summer to collect their harvest of seabirds. Ness is the Isle of Lewis’ most northerly rural community, and this event forms an integral part of the community’s and the island’s culture, as well as being a traditional source of food to many islanders. Dods MacFarlane has followed in the footsteps of his forefathers for over 40 years. However, this year he will lead the annual guga hunt for the last time. This documentary follows Dods’ last expedition to Sùlaisgeir, as he steps aside to allow a new generation of Ness men to continue the tradition.
